The Fear of Vulnerability
When you found me in the wilderness
I was cold and naked.
As the sun peered through the trees
And hit my bare body,
I glistened a metallic glow.
You stepped closer to get a better view.
A twig cracked under your foot and
My gaze turned in your direction.
I let out a roar to alarm you.
(I couldn't let you get any closer.)
You fixed your piercing eyes on mine.
I let out another roar
That you interpreted as fear.
More twigs cracked as you came closer
With your hand held out
And your palm facing upward.
With each step you took forward,
I took one back.
I didn't want you near me.
I was perfectly fine--unharmed.
But you persisted,
So I ran.
And now we are in this race.
I can feel your breath on my neck.
I will never be caught,
No matter how long you chase me.
